Okay, so some of you may have already heard/read all of this elsewhere, but I thought it was worth mentioning, and even though I spent several hours unearthing all this knowledge, I'll sum it up for you.
1) Fangoria.com was offline for a short stint, but is now back up (at least somewhat). Problem is, the content is from mid-January. Many rumors have been floating around as to what happened/is happening, but are best summed up by The Jaded Viewer.
2) Child's Play is getting a remake. I ask, does it really need one? I'd rather see another film about the seed, Glen/Glenda.
3) Due to financial distress, Miramax Films closed it's doors, and The Weinsteins are feeling the same brunt. To make matters worse, they passed up the chance to distribute Machette (remember the teaser trailer from Tarantino/Rodriguez's Grindhouse movies), which is getting movie treatment later this year thanks to Fox.
4) Video Business Magazine is now out of business, which leaves us with Variety and Home Media Magazine. Sad, cause VB danced circles around both of them.
5) Within the last couple of months, Zelda Rubinstein, best known as Tangina from the Poltergeist movies, and Paul Naschy (if you don't know who he is, then shame on you) passed away.
5) Erotica maestro, Tinto Brass, is planning his next movie, the first 3-D porno. Nothing says In Your Face like 3-D porn.
6) Being a child of the 80's, I had many reservations about a remake to a movie I hold so dear, but after watching the international trailer for the new Clash of the Titans, I'm thinking it may be badass (not sure about the song blaring in the background though). And, the new Kraken is a frickin beast (see any similarities to the sea creature in Pirates of the Caribbean?).
This is the retro shirt I just bought on E-bay from teesmeewearme. It doesn't look quite this good, but is still pretty sweet, and I know I'll be the only one at the theatre wearing one. Yeah, and I'll be "That Guy..."
7) Bruce Campbell is back and will follow up My Name is Bruce with Bruce vs. Frankenstein. I guess we'll have to wait even longer for Evil Dead 4, the Evil Dead remake (which I'm skeptical about), and Bubba Ho-Tep 2.
8) Although innovative marketing of Ti West's House of the Devil increased it's allure with a DVD/VHS combo pack exclusive to Amazon.com, the film still sucked balls. I have yet to NOT be disappointed by all the hype around new retro movies. Then again, maybe I just expect too much.
9) Is it just me, or does The Silent House (the latest buzz film from Uruguay) look like a rip-off of [REC] and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? That sound is sooo familiar.
10) Taxidermia will finally get a proper U.S. release on March 23rd, thanks to E1 Entertainment. Ya know, I've been sitting on my Region 2 Tartan release for probably close to two years now. I mean, I purchased it from Xploited Cinema, which closed it's doors in July of 2008, but just never got around to watching it. But, these pics are enticing enough to make me dig it out of the boxes I have yet to unpack from my move in January '09. Just too many DVDs and not enough time.
And, lastly, the most explicit pic can be viewed here. The Side Show isn't above showing nudity, but we don't want to get our domain name yanked either.
So, until next time, watch something that doesn't suck, and then tell me about it so I can review it. I'll give you credit, I promise.
